The prestigious platinum collection comprises of fifty four exclusive New York style apartments located at 55 London Victoria, dubbed ‘55VS’. Due for completion in 2016, the apartments offer the ultimate in cutting edge design right from the superior finished down to the buildings sprinkler system.
The high specification and shear luxuriousness of the apartments meant that we had to find innovative ways of protecting them from fire and water damage.
In the event of a fire or accidental triggering of the sprinkler system at 55VS would be catastrophic as the remedial costs for repairs and re-furnishing would be enormous. The difficulty we faced was that we had to protect the premises from fire by improving the traditional water sprinkler system, but this had to be done in a discreet way.
We considered our Zonecheck Residential system as a contender to solve this problem facing 55VS. The product works alongside traditional fire sprinkler systems, protecting the premises by providing the fire services with location information of the incident, thereby enabling them to respond immediately to tackle the origin of the fire. By establishing the location within a multi-occupancy building, the rescue operation is swift and property damage is dramatically reduced saving hundreds of thousands of pounds. In an apartment building such as this one, we would install Zonecheck for each property, guaranteeing that the seat of the fire could be immediately identified and tackled. The Fire and Rescue Service would not have to break down doors in their efforts to trace the start of the fire and residents would not have to suffer major inconvenience, stress or damage to property.
In addition, Zonecheck saves 100% of the water normally wasted during testing, it saves energy and can be remotely tested keeping system maintenance visits to a minimum. Once Zonecheck Residential in place, the Building Services Management team can simply and easily test the sprinkler system with just a turn of the key. Traditional testing methods requires skilled engineers to manually drain water off for each flow-switch installed, causing disruption for tenants.
As 55VS is going for a BREEAM rating of ‘excellent’, the inclusion of Zonecheck Residential can help the building meet it’s water and energy saving targets. BREEAM is which is a leading environmentally assessment method for buildings, www.breeam.com.
Having installed Zonecheck in commercial and residential buildings all over the world, we already knew that it would be extremely successful once in place. In addition, the residential model has been designed to be particularly compact so that it can be installed into a tight space without any deterioration to the aesthetic properties of the building.
