Build the foundations of sprinkler design

The Fundamentals course provides structured, practical training in the principles of commercial and industrial sprinkler system design. Designed around BS EN 12845, the course takes delegates through the complete design process, helping them understand not just the rules, but the reasoning behind key design decisions.

Across three intensive classroom-based days, delegates work through the six key stages of sprinkler design, from specification and hazard classification through to sprinkler spacing, pipework calculations, water supplies and the presentation of completed design information.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a stronger understanding of how to approach straightforward commercial and industrial sprinkler designs with greater confidence.

Who is the course for?

Fundamentals is designed for people looking to develop a structured understanding of commercial and industrial sprinkler design. A basic understanding of sprinkler systems and their main components is recommended. The course moves at a relatively fast pace and covers a substantial amount of technical material over three days.

Fundamental Sprinkler Design Course

Fundamentals is designed to develop understanding rather than simply teach delegates which rule to follow. Classroom teaching is supported by worked examples, calculations and design exercises, helping delegates put the principles of BS EN 12845 into context. The result is training that connects the standard to the decisions sprinkler designers need to make on real projects.

Understand the Standards

Build your knowledge of BS EN 12845 and the principles behind compliant sprinkler design.

Work Through Calculations

Develop confidence with pipe sizing, frictional loss, hydraulic calculations and water supply requirements.

Apply Your Knowledge

Use design exercises and worked examples to put what you've learned into practice.

Recognised training.
A route to further development.

Fundamentals concludes with a written assessment to check delegates’ understanding of the course material. The course is recognised by the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), with delegates receiving certification on completion and enhanced certification for those who successfully pass the assessment.

Project Fire’s design training also forms part of a pathway towards a Level 3 Certificate in Commercial Sprinkler Design and a CSCS card, providing a route for those looking to further demonstrate their competency and professional development.

Who is the course for?

Fundamentals is an intensive technical course, so delegates should already have a basic understanding of how sprinkler systems work and their principal
components.

We highly recommend bringing your own copy of the latest BS EN 12845 sprinkler rule book, preferably including the relevant Technical Bulletins.

Ready to build your sprinkler design skills?

Join the Project Fire Academy for three days of focused commercial and industrial sprinkler design training and develop the technical knowledge and practical understanding to take your next step in sprinkler design.

What our delegates say

"It’s a fantastic course for anyone considering it. Very well delivered with an impressive practical setup in their warehouse."
"The mix of presentation, practical and calculation practice was very helpful and the resources are something I will continue to use and refer back to! I would highly recommend the Academy!"
"I found the course both highly enjoyable and very insightful, and I appreciated the clear way you explained the material and shared your practical experience."
