Overview
The Project Fire Academy has two new courses aimed at those wishing to know more about commercial and industrial sprinkler design under BS EN 12845 such as junior sprinkler design engineers, project managers, apprentice designers.
We have named these courses FUNDAMENTALS and ADVANCED. They are both three days in length and are designed to be taken one after the other to build knowledge and understanding.
The FUNDAMENTALS course covers everything you need to know for designing simple buildings. The course is built around the 6 stages of sprinkler design:
- Specification and Classification – where the focus is different types of sprinkler systems, classification of systems, key design criteria and the various talking points around the sprinkler specification.
- Design Spacing & Coverage – this section is all about sprinkler heads and how to place them compliantly and effectively within a building project.
- Pipework Design & Configuration – this section primarily deals with frictional loss calculations and pipe sizing.
- Additional Requirements – Looks at things like life safety enhancements, zoning and monitoring.
- Water Supplies – Water supply options and a more in depth look at fire pumps and tanks.
- Presentation & delivery of Information – this section covers the more contractual side of sprinklers and what information is required for commissioning and handover.
The ADVANCED course is based around the same 6 stages but covering different sub-topics and more advanced calculations. See below for more details.
Both courses will conclude with a written assessment to check understanding. The training course is in the process of being accredited which may be back-dated once the accreditation is complete.
Both courses will be mostly classroom based and be intensive with many subjects covered at a fast pace. Although all subjects will be taught, a basic understanding of the workings of a sprinkler system and the components is expected. It is highly recommended that you have your own copy of the latest BS EN 12845 sprinkler rule book (preferably with technical bulletins). Scroll to bottom of page for booking form.
Training is provided by Andrew Fisher who has worked in the sprinkler industry for over 11 years, previously passed the LPS 1048 exams and is also a qualified teacher. Andrew has been providing training in automatic fire sprinkler systems for over 8 years, has delivered over a 1000 hours of CPD training to global consultancy firms and also curates and presents Project Fire’s educational platform “Sprinkler Talk”.
